## Why Your Take-Home Pay Shows Zero Tax

The United Arab Emirates does not levy a personal income tax on salaries. For the majority of expatriate employees, what you earn as gross salary is exactly what you keep as net take-home pay, resulting in an AED 0 tax deduction.

While there are no tax bands, there are specific mandatory contributions depending on your nationality. UAE nationals and other GCC nationals are required to contribute to the social security and pension scheme \(usually 11% of the pensionable salary for UAE nationals, with the employer contributing 15%\). Expatriate employees do not pay social security contributions.

Instead of a pension, expatriate employees are entitled to an End-of-Service Gratuity — a lump-sum benefit paid by the employer at the end of the employment contract, based on the final basic salary and years of service. This is a terminal benefit and not a monthly deduction from your salary.

### Frequently Asked Questions

#### Is there any personal income tax on salaries in the UAE?

No, the UAE does not currently levy any personal income tax on salaries or wages. For expatriates, your gross salary is generally your net take-home pay.

#### Are there any mandatory deductions from my salary in the UAE?

While there is no income tax, expatriate employees must enroll in the mandatory Involuntary Loss of Employment \(ILOE\) scheme, which costs AED 5 to AED 10 per month depending on your basic salary. UAE and GCC nationals also have mandatory social security and pension contributions.

#### Is the End-of-Service Gratuity deducted from my monthly salary?

No. The End-of-Service Gratuity is a terminal benefit entirely funded by your employer. It is paid out when your employment contract ends and is never deducted from your monthly paycheck.
