## How Mexico Taxes Your Income

Mexico's tax system uses progressive brackets managed by the Servicio de Administración Tributaria \(SAT\). Your take-home pay is also reduced by mandatory contributions to social security \(IMSS\), which cover healthcare and pensions.

A federal employment subsidy \(Subsidio al Empleo\) is also available to help reduce the tax burden for minimum-wage earners.

#### How much are social security \(IMSS\) contributions in Mexico?

In Mexico, employees must contribute to the Mexican Social Security Institute \(IMSS\), which covers public healthcare, pensions, and maternity benefits. The employee portion is generally around 2.5% to 3% of their base salary. Employers cover the vast majority of IMSS costs, contributing around 20% to 25% on top of the employee's salary.

#### What is the Aguinaldo bonus in Mexico?

The Aguinaldo is a mandatory end-of-year bonus in Mexico. Employers are required by law to pay their employees an amount equivalent to at least 15 days of their regular salary by December 20th each year. This bonus is subject to income tax \(ISR\) but generally has an exempt portion up to 30 times the daily UMA \(Unit of Measure and Update\).
