# Methodology

Our calculator is designed to provide clear, instant estimates of your take-home pay based on official tax rules for each supported country. Here is how we calculate the numbers.

## Calculation Approach

The calculator uses a gross-to-net approach. You input your gross income \(annual or monthly\) and we apply the country's specific income tax bands and mandatory social contributions \(such as pension, health insurance, and unemployment contributions\) to determine your net take-home pay.

For countries like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia that do not levy a personal income tax on salaries, the tool accounts for any applicable mandatory social security contributions \(typically for nationals\) and provides a zero-tax calculation for expatriates.

## Stated Assumptions

To provide immediate answers without requiring an exhaustive questionnaire, our estimates rely on standard assumptions:

  * **Single Filer:** Calculations assume you are filing as a single individual with no dependents.
  * **Employee Income:** The tool is designed for standard employment income \(W-2, PAYE, etc.\) and does not model self-employment or freelance taxes.
  * **Standard Deductions:** We apply only the universal standard deductions, personal allowances, and tax credits. Special or situational deductions are not included.

## Data Sources & Update Policy

All tax bands, rates, and thresholds are sourced directly from the official tax authority of each country \(e.g., HMRC in the UK, IRS in the US, Bundesministerium der Finanzen in Germany\). You can find a direct link to the source used for each country right on its calculator page.

We review and update the rulesets annually when the new tax year takes effect for each jurisdiction. Every update is citation-checked against official government publications to ensure accuracy.

### Important Disclaimer

Results are estimates for general information only and do not constitute tax, financial, or legal advice. Your actual take-home pay depends on your specific personal circumstances. Always consult a qualified professional or the relevant tax authority when making financial decisions.
