## How Belgium Taxes Your Income

Belgium taxes income progressively across four bands, rising from 25% to a top rate of 50%. A portion of your income is completely tax-free thanks to the personal tax allowance \(_belastingvrije som_ / _quotité exemptée d’impôt_\).

In addition to income tax, employees pay a mandatory social security contribution of 13.07% on their gross salary, which funds pensions, healthcare, and unemployment benefits. This contribution is deducted from your salary before your income tax is calculated. Local municipal taxes may also apply depending on where you live, typically calculated as a small percentage of your income tax.
